Walkway construction in West Palm Beach FL - a path that stays even underfoot
Muddy track or cracked, uneven path to the door? We build paver and concrete walkways that give you solid footing.

What goes into building a new walkway to your front door?
Walkway construction in West Palm Beach is building the path from your street or driveway to the house, in pavers or poured concrete, on ground that's dug out and leveled first, much the way a sidewalk is built.
Most calls start with a path that's cracked, sinking or just a worn track across the grass. We dig out and grade the ground, then lay pavers or pour concrete. The price moves with the path's size, how much leveling the ground needs, whether it curves and whether you want plain concrete or added color and texture. The schedule mostly turns on the material, since concrete needs time to cure, and my written estimate lays out what we'd do and why.
We're based in West Palm Beach and work in the cities around it across Palm Beach County, so if yours isn't on our site, call and ask. A new walkway often goes with other work, like a brick wall installation along the edge of the yard or stone masonry at the front steps, and it's easier to plan them together.
Walkway construction choices to settle first
A few choices made before we dig decide how your walkway looks, how it handles rain and how easy it is to fix later, so it's worth settling them early.
Ground prep comes first
We dig out and grade the ground before anything goes down, because a path laid on soft or uneven ground starts sinking and cracking where it's weakest.
Pavers or poured concrete
Both need little upkeep, so the choice usually comes down to how you'd fix a crack later and how long you can go without the path. I talk both through with you on site.
Sand in the paver joints
Polymeric sand, a sand that binds the joints, holds pavers in place and stops weeds, but water can't soak through it. Permeable joint sand lets water in but can need topping up over time.
Paving that lets rain through
Permeable paving is weaker than regular paving but suits a foot path. Runoff from nearby beds should drain away from it, because washed-in dirt can clog the surface.
Walkway questions we hear most
How much does a paver or concrete walkway cost per square foot?
Paver or poured concrete paving across the US usually costs about $6 to $30 per square foot, and that's a national figure, not our price. Where your path lands depends on its size, how much leveling the ground needs and whether you want plain concrete or added color and texture. I measure it at your home and lay out what we'd do in a written estimate.
Are pavers or concrete easier to repair on a walkway?
Pavers are easier and usually cheaper to repair, because a cracked paver can be lifted out and replaced on its own. With concrete, it's best to patch a crack as soon as it shows so it doesn't turn into a bigger, costlier fix.
Can I build a walkway myself instead of hiring a contractor?
You may be able to if it's a straight concrete path on ground that needs no leveling and you've mixed and poured concrete before. That's one home-service site's view, and by the same advice, a site that needs leveling, a curved walkway or a paver walkway is a job for a professional.
How long does a new concrete walkway take to cure before I can walk on it?
Poured concrete takes several days to cure before it's ready to use. Plan another way to the door until then, like the driveway or a side entrance. Pavers don't have that wait, which is one reason some people choose them.
What is the best way to keep tree roots from damaging a new walkway?
The best way is to leave plenty of room for the roots to grow, so the tree and the paving aren't fighting over the same ground. When there's a tree near your path, we look at where its roots will spread before we set the path's line, so mention it when you call.
Where can I read West Palm Beach's rules before building a walkway?
The city's building regulations and zoning and land development regulations are online as part of its code of ordinances. For questions, the city's Building Division takes calls at 561.805.6700 or email at ds@wpb.org, and the Planning Division answers at 561.822.1461 or planning@wpb.org.
